Loan Review Portfolio Management Team Leader

FT/PT:  Full-Time

This leadership role is for a dynamic and changing environment and will manage the day to day workflow of the Loan Review Portfolio Management team providing consistency and quality control.  You will assess the overall effectiveness of the commercial and consumer loan portfolio management processes and procedures. Verify completeness of loan and collateral documentation as well as assure that lending and portfolio monitoring activities conform to policy and procedures.  Manage, lead and develop members of the Loan Review Portfolio Management team and assist the Loan Review Manager with execution of plan and in the ongoing enhancement of a systematic loan review process.

Office location is any First Midwest Bank location i.e., Chicago, South suburbs, Plainfield, West suburbs, Northwest and North Suburbs.


  • 5 years’ experience in a commercial lending environment as a lender, portfolio manager, underwriter, credit analyst, auditor, or documentation expert.
  • Ability to develop working relationships at all levels within the organization
  • Experience with commercial loan structures, financial reporting requirements and financial covenant monitoring
  • Experience with project management is required
  • Knowledge of Bank and appraisal regulations and guidelines
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills
  • Strong analytical and investigation skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to identify issues and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to make important decisions which can impact the wider organization
  • Ability to maintain independence within the organization
  • Ability to set priorities, plan and follow through
  • Engage the credit process to assure consistent credit culture across the Bank
  • Employ intuitive insights and exercise judgment as to credit quality
  • Experience in a Loan Review function is preferred
  • Internal Audit experience in financial institutions a plus
  • Management experience preferred
  • Experience/understanding of consumer credit preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, or equivalent experience required

Loan            Review:

  • Review of commercial and consumer loans of all types, sizes and complexity to assess:
    • Effectiveness of the overall portfolio management practices including: 1) loans are being adequately monitored in accordance with the credit policy; 2) financial statements are collected, reviewed and filed on a timely basis; and 3) financial covenants are monitored and tested
    • Completeness of loan and collateral documentation. 
    • Track and monitor credit file and loan documentation exceptions and follow up for resolution
  • Complete process, procedure and oversight reviews to ensure data integrity in loan systems
  • Assist in the planning, execution and close out of loan reviews including reporting of exam results
  • Partner with Loan Operations and Collateral Control as needed in the resolution of errors and exceptions
  • Make recommendations, create action plans and track issues to closure
  • Maintain documentation to support accountability for results
  • Maintain quality and productivity of review product and reporting to established standards
  • Provide support to Lead Reviewers during kick-off, update and exit meetings

  • Assist in the timely completion of final Loan Review reports for Group Heads, Line of business Directors and Senior Management
  • Assist with preparation of the Loan Review quarterly report to the Board of Directors and the Annual Loan Review Plan


Othe            Other Duties:

  • Recommend changes to the credit policy as needed
  • Travel (some overnight) to FMB locations for onsite reviews and/or training
  • Complete all required compliance training
  • Maintain current training levels in credit and Leadership/Management as offered by FMBU
  • Participate in the activities of Credit Administration and Loan Committees as required
  • Maintain proficiency in FMBs systems and technologies
  • Monitor and apply changes in the credit policy and regulations
  • Make recommendations for changes to the Loan Review program
  • Conduct training programs as requested
  • Special projects as assigned
