LEAD Rotational Development Program Participant

FT/PT:  Full-Time

The Rotational Development Program participants will be part of an 18 to 24 month development program that will cycle through various targeted functional rotations.  The program is designed to help prepare and develop future organizational leaders through accelerated training and rotational assignments that will ensure participant exposure to multiple departments within the line of business through a cross-functional approach.  Participants will be introduced to the company’s products, services and processes that will foster the skills and knowledge needed in preparation for a successful career in their respective track, while simultaneously making valuable contributions to the organization.  Potential placement after successful completion of the program includes a variety of professional roles in the analytical, sales, and client services areas. 


The Rotational Development Program includes the following tracks:


  • Commercial Banking - offers an opportunity to take part in a structured credit training program, where participants develop an understanding of credit products, lending practices, financial analysis and the banking industry.  Participants of this track also participate in complementary rotations which may include sales/servicing roles within Commercial Banking, Treasury Management, and Credit Administration. 


  • Wealth Management - offers an opportunity to rotate through core functions of the wealth management business unit, where participants gain experience in investment strategies.  Participants of this track will participate in complementary rotations which may include sales/servicing roles within Private Banking, Trust Sales/Operations and First Midwest Financial Network. 


  • Retail Banking - offers an opportunity to rotate through core functions of the retail bank operations, where participants gain hands on knowledge of FMB's customer service philosophy and approach in addition to understanding how retail administrative procedures and policies are set and administered.  Participants are provided an opportunity to experience several other key lines of business, plus core operational functions which are critical to the retail platform.


  • Corporate and Operations - offers an opportunity to rotate through core functions of operations and/or corporate support to gain an understanding of the methodology and process for driving change and operations consulting.  The goal of this track is to build business analysis and project management skills to achieve forward progress, improve productivity/efficiency and assist in change priorities in support of the business units.


While in this program, the participants will report to the Rotational Development Program Manager.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline which coincides with the line of business
  2. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 out of 4.0
  3. Ability to demonstrate initiative and think creatively about business challenges
  4. Self-starter with involvement in extra-curricular, community or university sponsored organizations.  Prior internship experience strongly preferred.
  5. Strong desire to learn and proven ability to adapt in new situations
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  7. Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
  8. Driven and motivated with demonstrated teamwork and leadership ability
  9. Strong interest in the banking industry and desire to grow and develop a career at First Midwest Bank
  10. Geographically mobile, ready for assignments in 3-4 different locations during the program
  11. Proficient with MS Office
  12. Permanent US work authorization required


Additional requirements specific to the following lines of business:


Commercial Banking and Wealth Management Track:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related business major
  • Successful completion of at least two accounting courses with grades of B or better


Corporate and Operations Track

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related major or Information Technology


Retail Banking Track

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related major, Management, Communications or similar

Specific responsibilities will be determined and depend on the needs of the department and the line of business specialization.  Typical experiences may include but are not limited to:


  • Completion of a Business Project presentation specific to the assigned line of business
  • Mentoring activities to provide guidance in navigating daily responsibilities and First Midwest Bank culture
  • Learning and development opportunities, including technical training within your assigned line of business and professional development courses
  • Community service team building events
